Leading construction and engineering company BAM Nuttall has been announced by Leeds City Council as one of two construction partners to deliver Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme (LPTIP), part of the long-term Connecting Leeds transport strategy to improve all aspects of the transport network in the city and connectivity with the wider Leeds City Region.
BAM Nuttall will provide the design and construction of the bus priority corridor and park and ride schemes. Over the coming weeks, the delivery options will be evaluated on a potential £90m of improvement work. John Sisk & Sons will carry out the other LPTIP package that is focussed upon works in and around the city centre.
The elements making up BAM Nuttall’s package include five key road and bus routes in the city as well as new and enhanced park and ride facilities and upgrades.
Working with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and stakeholders, the vision for the strategy is to make travelling in and around Leeds a more reliable and enjoyable experience and to make using public transport more attractive.
The plans aim to maximise the space and efficiency of the road network for all users, with enhanced cycling and walking provision, as well as improving air quality through reduced congestion in the city.
The programme is funded through the Department for Transport, Leeds City Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
