Delta Air Lines, in a partnership with the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports, has announced a $229 million project to renovate Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in California.
The scope of the project includes two-fold increase in the size of the ticketing lobby and federal security screening checkpoints; rendering an exclusive Sky Priority experience with a separate lobby and checkpoint; improving the facilities to improve international baggage recheck.
The project will also renovate the Delta Sky Club to include full-service bar, new carpet, tile, and additional recharge stations for personal electronic devices; new baggage carousels and upgraded facilities to improve international baggage recheck. Overall, the existing terminal building will receive a new finishes providing a cleaner, brighter customer experience.
The renovated terminal will feature a private VIP check-in lobby that will provide the most elite experience to the passengers and new finishes providing a cleaner, brighter customer experience.
In addition, the new Terminal 5 will feature 15 new restaurants and shops that reflect the cuisine, culture and lifestyle of Los Angeles. The retail part of the project is likely to be completed in 2013.
The project received $12 million in funding from Delta Air Line’s invested capital for proprietary improvements. It has received an amount of $25 million in reimbursements from the Transportation Security Administration for security-screening measures and the remainder in LAWA commercial paper/long-term debt.
Staged in multiple phases, the work on terminal improvement has started and is due for completion in 2015.
