The firm that created the Atlantis resort at Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah has announced plans to open a similar resort in China.
Kerzner International has signed a deal with China’s Fosun International for a new Atlantis at the Haitang Bay National Coast with 1,300 guest rooms.
It will be the third Atlantis worldwide, following on from the original Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas and the Dubai resort.
Planning for the Chinese resort is already underway, with the architectural design being carried out by New York-based Brennan Beer Gorman Architects (BBG). It will contain an Aquaventure water park, marine exhibits and several dining resorts.
Kerzner International said construction work will begin at the end of the year and will complete by 2016. It is estimated that around 10,000 people will work on the resprt’s construction.
Chairman Sol Kerzner said: “I am very excited to be bringing Atlantis to China.
“I know this property will astonish and amaze guests—I have been working with the designers to come up with something that captures all the wonders of Atlantis, with its magnificent sense of discovery, whilst also introducing new experiences specifically for Sanya. I can’t wait to unveil this resort to the world.”
