NCC has signed a Skr410m ($55m) agreement with the Capital Region of Denmark for moulding of the building structure for the new part of Rigshospitalet (Copenhagen University Hospital), named the North Wing.
NCC Construction Denmark business area manager Klaus Kaae said: “Building the North Wing of Copenhagen University Hospital will be an interesting assignment, since it will be the first of a number of large-scale hospital construction projects that are planned for Zealand in the near future.
“This construction project will thus give us valuable experience that we will be able to utilise when these other hospitals have to be built or expanded.”
The assignment is expected to begin in February 2015.
Following the modification, the North Wing will get an architectural expression that will link the new hospital structure with the existing buildings.
NCC Construction Denmark department head Rune Holm Madsen said: “From a purely professional viewpoint, the assignment is really exciting.
“It involves complex concreting works, which include fulfilling requirements that will enable the University Hospital to use its hospital equipment and instruments, which are sensitive to vibrations.”
The new hospital wing is divided into seven departments, which will be at right angles to each other in a zigzag structure.
The property will house wards, operating theatres, support functions and administration.
The main work of NCC, which will also build a culvert and a pedestrian walkway to the current hospital, is scheduled for completion in September 2016 and its work will be finalised in September 2017.
Upon completion in January 2018, the North Wing will comprise 33 operating theatres and 212 single-bed rooms.
