Trafford Council has handed Amey a £235m contract for environmental and infrastructure services. Services to be delivered by Amey include commercial and domestic waste collection, street cleaning, grounds maintenance, highways services, bridges, road safety, street lighting and furniture, drainage and property maintenance.
The contract will run for 15 years from July 2015, with a potential extension of a further eight years.
The council expects to save £2.25m in the first year alone.
Amey chief executive Mel Ewell said: “Trafford Council is taking a pioneering approach to the way services are provided and we are delighted to be working with them on this contract. Combining these services allows us to support Trafford Council with efficiency savings whilst ensuring a high quality service is delivered to local residents.”
Amey also works for neighbouring Manchester City Council, looking after street lighting.
