Larsen & Toubro’s railway business has won a major contract for track construction on the first two lines of the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia.
The design and build contract, which is worth US$161.37m (£104m) is from the Bechtel-Almabani –CCC- Siemens consortium. The project involves 62.86km of double ballastless tracks in tunnels and on viaducts and at-grade sections as well as at three depots. The project is scheduled to be completed in 40 months.
The order was won against international competition and is in line with Larsen & Toubro’s strategy to expand its railway business into the Middle East.
