Five contractors have been shortlisted to build the £90m Bristol Arena.

All five companies attended a bidders’ day last week, hosted by the city council, the client for the project.

The bidders are BAM Construction, Bouygues UK, Sir Robert McAlpine, Laing O’Rourke and Buckingham Group Contracting.

They have until 18th December 2015 to submit their bids and the council aims to selected a winner in February 2016.

The 12,000 capacity entertainment venue is being designed by Populous, together with architect Feilden Clegg Bradley and structural engineer BuroHappold. It will be built on the former diesel depot site next to Bristol Temple Meads railway station in the Bristol Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone.

The pre-planning public consultation process has recently closed and two planning applications are expected to be submitted shortly. One detailed application is for the arena venue and access, and the other is an outline application for the future development of housing, business and leisure uses alongside the venue. Statutory consultation will take place once the planning documents have been submitted.
