The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT ) in the US is set to complete the “93 Fast 14” project by the end of the summer. The $98 million project involves the replacement of 14 structurally deficient bridges on Interstate 93 in Medford. Construction work includes lowering prefabricated bridge panels onto repaired supports, bolting them down, and pouring in concrete.MassDOT is replacing the bridges with modular superstructure units that have been developed off-site. The project has received a $1 million grant from the agency and 80% of the cost will be covered from federal funds. The project is part of the state’s $3 billion accelerated bridge programme to complete the backlog of repairs on structurally deficient bridges.
