A joint venture of Amec, Babcock Networks Limited and Mott MacDonald Group has secured a five-year extension to its existing five-year Electricity Alliance West contract from National Grid to upgrade power transmission network in the UK.
Pursuant to the terms of the contract worth £650 million ($1billion), the joint venture is required to upgrade overhead power lines and underground cables across the western half of England and all of Wales.
Under the contract, the joint venture will continue to provide engineering, management and construction services to 2017. AMEC and Babcock International Plc are the major partners with 47.5% interest in the joint venture.
The company has also stated that, in the period up to 2021, National Grid is anticipated to invest approximately £20 billion ($30.94 billion) in the joint venture’s gas and electricity transmission infrastructure to support the growing energy needs of the country.
