Grant Associates and Fletcher Priest Architects design community masterplan

Global landscape architecture company Grant Associates and Fletcher Priest Architects have collaborated to design the masterplan for a new community for developer Quintain Ireland.

The new Cherrywood Village community in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, South Dublin, will have more than 1,300 homes, three public parks and over 50,000ft² of retail and civic amenities.

The community will also include primary and post-primary schools.

Cherrywood Village’s masterplan builds on principles set out by the Strategic Development Zone status for the area, for which both companies are coordinating their work with the design team.

The team includes architectural companies Urban Agency and O’Mahony Pike Architects.

Grant Associates director Peter Chmiel said: “With the climate and biodiversity emergency we are living in, Cherrywood Village is an opportunity to create multi-functional, sensory-rich open spaces that provide amenity for the community, sustainable water management and biodiverse wildlife habitats.”

The masterplan includes generous walking, jogging and cycle routes that link residents to existing parks, the village centre and Luas Tram stops.

The focus of the community designs will be on planting typologies that feed off existing wildlife corridors. They will also include a wild range of pollinators as part of the ‘All Ireland Pollinator Plan’.

Grant Associates senior associate Carly Lamb said: “We approached the masterplanning process by establishing characterful neighbourhoods that are informed by the landscape setting.

“We’ve designed a tapestry of new open spaces to reconnect with existing mature habitats, creating new homes for both people and wildlife that are rich in biodiversity.”

Before this year-end, Quintain will seek planning permission for 1,000 homes at Cherrywood Village. The company plans to submit further applications next year.
