US-based construction management firm Lend Lease has been appointed as the general contractor for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum project at the World Trade Center site in New York City.

The Memorial part of the structure opened September 11th in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The museum features two reflecting pools, each nearly an acre in size that sit in the footprints of the former Twin Towers. The project also includes largest manmade waterfall in North America and more than 400 swamp white oak trees that envelop the pools.

The memorial project will feature the engraved names of approximately 3,000 people who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who perished in the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 on bronze panels surrounding the pools. The museum is scheduled to open in 2012.

Lend Lease has provided construction services on over 2,500 projects for 1,100 clients nationwide through its legacy Bovis Lend Lease business. The company provides a full range of construction services including construction management, general contracting, program management, project management, design/build and consulting services.
