The Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, Louisiana, US is set to begin work a $51 million makeover in January 2012.

Work will involve expansion of the stagehouse. The expanded stagehouse will facilitate a host of larger events such as Broadway and dance shows, music performances, film presentations, corporate assemblies, lectures as well as community events.

The building will also undergo restoration of its original ornate features including the trademark constellation pattern of the theatre which adorns its ceilings. In addition, the building will employ measures to ease access for the disabled following the facelift.

The project will receive contributions of $15 million in federal grants via Louisiana Recovery Authority and $35.5 million through private enterprises. The facility is slated to reopen by early 2013.
