Vanir Construction Management has been awarded a $15.5m contract to provide program, project and construction management services for King Khalid Medical City in Dammam.

The $4.3bn medical city will spread across 70ha and include a 1,500-bed hospital, research centre, car parking structures, conference facilities, villas and apartments. Future plans include further educational, commercial and hospitality development.

“We are very pleased to play a key role in this highly important project to manage the design and construction of this world-class health care facilitiy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” said president and CEO, Mansour Aliabadi, who fled Iran in 1979, taking up his position at Vanir in 1992.

“With a very strong experience in the management and delivery of healthcare projects in USA, Vanir is perfectly placed to serve our client’s needs to manage the design and construction of King Khalid Medical City.”

Vanir has already mobilised a team for the project, which is the largest of five medical cities in the Kingdom. Work on medical city is scheduled to be completed by 2017.

The contract to design and engineer the medical city was awarded to AECOM last year.
