Mumbai, August 26, 2015: The Power Transmission and Distribution Business of L&T Construction has won a prestigious order in the Middle East market from their reputed customer and key stakeholder, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA” for its ongoing Qatar Electricity Transmission Network Expansion Plan-Phase XII.

The order encompasses the engineering, procurement & construction of two substation packages.The first package includes upgradation and strengthening of two 400kV substations and the extension of a 132kV substation while the second package is for the construction of four new 66kV substations.

This is a repeat order from KAHRAMAA after Phases VIII, X, XI, XI-A and the two cabling packages under Phase XII.

Devised to meet the growing demand for electricity in Qatar as the country continues to witness tremendous development and urbanisation, the expansion project aims to ensure stable power supply to all sectors including households, industries, business centres, shopping malls, hospitals and schools throughout the capital city of Doha and its suburbs.

The State of Qatar has been one of the biggest spenders on transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure in the Gulf in recent years and the T&D infrastructure at KAHRAMAA is being developed at a pace matching the country’s ambitious goals in the sports, social and economic sectors among others.

The Power Transmission & Distribution business is a leading EPC player in the field of T&D business offering integrated solutions and end to end services ranging from design, manufacturing, supply, installation and commissioning of transmission lines, underground cable networks (both power and control), substations, distribution networks, electrical and instrumentation works for power, process and infrastructure projects, in both domestic and international markets. On the renewable energy side, the business provides turnkey EPC services for projects on photovoltaic and concentrated solar power plants.
