Larsen and Tubro Arabia (L&T) has begun procurement and construction work on a gas plant in Saudi Arabia’s Midyan gas field, according to a Saudi Gazette report.

The project is the first launched by Saudi Aramco in the northern Tabuk region of the country and is planned to be fully operational by 2016.

“The plant site is situated about 195 kilometers west of Tabuk and 135 kilometers north of Duba,” said Fahad Al-Helal, the executive director of project management at Saudi Aramco.

When complete, the plant will be producing and processing around 2.1 million cubic metres of non-associated gas and 4,500 barrels of condensate per day.

Two pipelines stretching 98km (kilometers) are included in the project and will deliver sales gas and stabilised hydrocarbon liquids to a power plant near Duba. This will allow the Duba facility to generate electricity with high efficiency and avoid burning high-value diesel, according to Al-Helal.

The plant is in line with Saudi Aramco’s corporate strategy of meeting the Kingdom’s energy demands efficiently while providing grassroots facilities that help create career opportunities in the region, he added.
